chromecast-streaming

Given that Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services in the world it goes without saying that many users also happen to own a Chromecast, the HDMI dongle that Google sold in the millions. Even though the first-gen Chromecast supports music streaming it hasn’t had support for Spotify, the latest dongle fixes that but if you already have one you may not want to buy another one just to stream music. Well you don’t need to because Spotify can now stream to the first-gen Chromecast.

Spotify did bring streaming support to Chromecast Audio but it required users to have a premium subscription, since many use Spotify for its ad-supported version, this would have been of no use to them. Moreover the original Chromecast dongle wasn’t supported and that was no good as well.

While the premium subscription is still required for Chromecast Audio, at least the first-gen dongle can now stream music via Spotify. All it needed was a software update so if you own one, just reboot the Chromecast and you’ll immediately be able to stream music from Spotify.

The update is rolling out now and your dongle might have automatically jumped on the new one, it’s best to perform a reboot just to be sure, the dongle can be rebooted by unplugging it from the power or through the Chromecast app on mobile.
