device activationsWhile Apple’s iPhones might not necessarily be the fastest, or have the best camera, or have the most intuitive operating system, the most battery, the most storage, and etc., they are still pretty highly-coveted devices, and also on the wishlist of many around the world. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Apple’s iPhones actually accounted for 49.1% of device activations during the holiday season.

This is according to analytics firm Flurry Insights who revealed that 49.1% of devices activated during the holidays were iPhones. No doubt this is a huge number especially when you consider that it is just one manufacturer, but it seems that it is also a slight dip from the previous year where it accounted for more than half of devices activated at 51.3%.

As for the competition, it looks like Samsung is slowly but steadily gaining on Apple with 19.8% device activations, up from last year where they accounted for 17.7%. It seems that it’s not Samsung’s flagships that drove sales, but rather mid-rangers like the Galaxy Grand Prime and Core Prime, although the Galaxy S6 was listed as well.

2015 also marked the first time that Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi made the list by coming in at 1.5%, especially when you consider that China isn’t exactly known to celebrate Christmas, at least not in the same way that Western countries do. Sony has fallen out of the top 5, and Nokia saw its device activations drop from 5.8% to 2%, which we suppose shouldn’t be surprising given that technically Nokia doesn’t make phones anymore.
