Too lazy to park yourself? Or maybe there’s a spot that’s too tight that you don’t trust yourself to park in? The good news is that if you are a recent BMW owner, there is a good chance that your car could be equipped with the company’s self-parking technology, in which at a push of a button on your remote, your car will be able to park itself.

The bad news is that this feature has only been available in markets outside of the US, but not for much longer. In a press conference held by the US Department of Transportation, its Secretary Anthony Foxx mentioned BMW specifically and stated that the company’s self-parking system is compliant with US federal regulations.

Like we said, this feature has been available for a while now outside of the US, but the company has not brought it stateside in fear that it would violate regulations. However with Foxx’s announcement, BMW has since responded by saying that they will now be bringing that feature stateside as quickly as possible.

According to BMW’s statement from spokesman Dave Buchko, “This will enable us to put forward that technology for approval by the US Department of Transportation, which we intend to do as quickly as possible. We do not yet have a timeframe for when we can make the technology available to customers in the US.” He also adds, “The technology in this feature is such that we will be able to make it available for cars that do not already have it.”
