george lucas star warsStar Wars: The Force Awakens (essentially episode VII) was directed with great success by JJ Abrams. Star Wars Episode VIII might have found its director in the form of Rian Johnson, and while it is still quite a long way to go, Star Wars Episode IX also has found its director in Colin Trevorrow, whom for those unfamiliar also directed 2015’s Jurassic World.

However it seems that some fans have a better idea of who should direct the last episode in the latest Star Wars trilogy. According to Yuri Luiz, from São Paolo, Brazil, he thinks that none other than the man himself, George Lucas, should find his way back into the director’s seat for Episode IX, and has since launched a petition to try and make that happen.

According to the petition, “We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow, but he’s not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX. George Lucas as director of Episode IX would be the perfect way to end this new trilogy and make an epic farewell between the father of Star Wars and the whole universe of the galaxy far, far away…”

It’s an interesting proposal but Lucas’s relationship with Disney does seem a bit odd at the moment. Last month he criticized the company’s decisions, but then backtracked by clarifying to USA Today by saying that Disney is actually doing an “incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise.” Regardless, if you think that Lucas needs to hop back into the director’s seat for Episode IX, you can head on over to Change.org and sign the petition.
