It used to be that the function of a light was simply to illuminate. However with technology having progressed, the simple light has been upgraded to do much more than that these days. If you’re after some lighting for your home that does more than just illuminate the room that it’s in, then Sony’s Multifunctional Light might be of interest to you.

As its name implies, this light does more than what a light is expected to do. It will be able to detect your presence when you walk into the room, and from there it will also be able to turn on the TV. It can also turn on the air conditioning, or even work as a room-to-room intercom system. It will also be able to play music, control your thermostat, and will also be able to double up as a motion detector so that it will sound the alarm when it detects motion.

All of this can also be controlled via its accompanying smartphone app. The light itself will be provided by Toshiba and will be of the LED variety, meaning that just like other smart LED lights we’ve seen, adjusting its color to match your mood is possible. Also, LEDs are known to be more energy efficient so it will help with your electricity bill.

Unfortunately, it seems that Sony’s Multifunctional Light will be arriving in Japan first in the first half of 2016. There is no word on whether it will make its way to other markets, but from what we have seen in the video, we are hoping that it will.
