nfl-logoIn the US, football is probably one of the more beloved sports of the nation, which is why every year there is so much fuss made about the Super Bowl. This is why it is understandable that companies are eager to gain the rights to show NFL games on their networks, and recently it seems that tech companies are interested in streaming the game as well.

The NFL has recently announced that they are “in active discussions with prospective digital partners” for the global OTT streaming rights to Thursday Night Football games. While the NFL did not exactly say who they were in talks with, Variety has heard from their sources that this includes tech companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Verizon’s Go90.

Unsurprisingly many companies refused to comment on the speculation, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they were in discussions. After all, last October when Yahoo had an exclusive stream to NFL games, they managed to attract 15.2 million unique visitors who logged in just for the livestream of the Buffalo Bills-Jacksonville Jaguars game.

Also with Apple’s new Apple TV and the reports of the company planning to have their own programming, having an exclusive NFL livestream (or at least being able to stream the game) would no doubt be a boon for the company. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us later for more updates.
