samsung virtual realityWatching sports on TV isn’t anything new, but imagine being able to watch it in virtual reality to feel like you’re actually there – now that would be a new experience! The good news for sports enthusiasts is that Samsung wants to start delivering sporting content via virtual reality, and they will begin with the 2016 Youth Olympic Games.

Apparently the goal here is to encourage youths to never give up on their hopes and dreams by spreading the spirit of the Games, and what better way to capture the attention of young people than with fancy new technology, right?

According to Younghee Lee, the Executive VP of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung, “Samsung is proud to spread the Youth Olympic Games spirit both in Lillehammer and around the globe and create new experiences designed to reach youths through our state-of-the-art technology and riveting VR content.”

Of course this will require viewers to own the Samsung Gear VR headset, in which they will be able to tune into live VR streams of the Opening Ceremony, as well as view daily highlight reels (also in VR) of the various sporting events. The Lillehammer 2016 Winter Youth Olympic games will be taking place from 12-21st February, 2016, in Lillehammer, Norway, so if you’d like to check it out, those are the dates you can look forward to.
