facebook-live-android-screenWhile TV stations and other more conventional methods of watching TV used to rule back in the day, these days with people becoming increasingly connected and mobile, streaming platforms have shifted to the internet, onto our computers, and our mobile devices. This is why it isn’t surprising to learn that previously there were reports of tech companies trying to gain the rights to stream NFL games.

Now according to a report from Reuters, it seems that Facebook and Twitter are both interested in more livestreaming content, namely TV. Apparently both companies have approached programmers and have attempted to secure a deal. Twitter had declined to comment, but a statement from Facebook reads, “Our goal with live video is to work with our partners to move to a sustainable monetization model quickly. We are not focused on acquiring the rights to conventional TV programs.”

Interestingly enough both companies are currently pushing for livestreaming services. For example Facebook has a live video streaming feature that has recently been opened up to all users, and let’s not forget that Twitter also has Periscope, an app that also allows for the creation of livestreams.

It wouldn’t be surprising to think that Facebook and Twitter could eventually be considering moving on from just regular user-created content, but until then we guess it’s best taken with a grain of salt for now.
