Milk-Music-Samsung

Update – Samsung has reached out to us to clarify that the rumors about them acquiring Tidal are not true.

With so many music streaming services available, and the differences between them like on-demand streaming versus radio-like streaming, consumers are spoilt for choice, which also means that there are probably some services that have fallen by the wayside. Now Samsung’s Milk Music made its debut in 2014, but safe to say it hasn’t really caught on in a big way.

So much so that according to a report from Variety, word on the street has it that Samsung is considering shutting it down. Milk Music was meant to be an introduction to something larger, which saw Samsung launch Milk Video in the later part of 2014. However it did not exactly gain traction either which led to Samsung closing it down in 2015.

However in the case of Milk Music, the decision to close the service could have less to do with its popularity, but more because Samsung has their eyes on another service that they plan on acquiring, or according to Variety’s report, a partnership with a major streaming provider. We had previously heard that Samsung was interested in acquiring Jay-Z’s Tidal music service, and if anything it sounds like this report supports that idea.

In any case no word on when this will be taking place, but with the amount of rumors starting to grow, it is possible we could look forward to a formal announcement (or denial) in the near future. Until then, take it with a grain of salt.
