snapchat-discover-app-newsWhen seeing a feed like on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat, which would you prefer? Seeing the latest news first and making your way to older content, or would you prefer topics that the platform thinks you’re interested in surfacing to the top first? The latter has already been applied to the likes of Facebook and recently Instagram, and Snapchat could be next.

According to a report from Digiday, they have heard that Snapchat could soon be making the switch and have its content feed changed from chronological order to an algorithmic feed. This means that content it thinks you might enjoy will be displayed first, which in turn could mean that several publishers could end up on the losing end.

One of their sources that is close to Snapchat said, “It’s going to be the same model Facebook has: It’s free for everybody to share content, but an algorithm will penalize some people and boost others. That’s why you don’t want to be beholden to any one of these platforms or you’re suddenly stuck when the game changes.”

It is unclear as to when Snapchat will be instituting these changes, but apparently discussions have been going on since early this year. We’re not sure if this will end up being better for users, but we do know that Instagram users weren’t thrilled by it, but what about you guys who use Snapchat? Are you down for an algorithmic feed?
