cyanogenmod-m6The other day it was reported that according to the rumors, Cyanogen Inc. was undergoing some massive layoffs. It should be noted that Cyanogen Inc. and the work it does for OEMs is separate from CyanogenMod which is largely supported by the Android community, but it seems that there might have been some confusion over the differences of both companies.

So much so that Cyanogen Inc.’s co-founder Steve Kondik took time out of his day to pen a blog post on the CyanogenMod website in which he reassures users that the ROM will not be going anywhere. “CyanogenMod isn’t going anywhere, nor has Cyanogen Inc. discontinued it’s efforts towards the goal of bringing it to a larger audience.”

So for all you users of CM out there, you can rest easy knowing that for now it seems that nothing has changed. Kondik also refutes the claims that Cyanogen Inc. will be shifting their focus towards apps, and from what we can tell, it sounds like the company might have some kind of announcement to make regarding Cyanogen Inc./Cyanogen OS in the future.

Kondik says, “Contrary to popular belief, we are not ‘pivoting to apps’ nor are we shelving CM :) We’ll have additional information on the Inc site soon.” We will be keeping an eye of what’s going on in this space so for all you fans of mods and ROMs, do check back with us later for the details.
