patient_wearing_viewi_deviceIf there is one reason why there are many people out there don’t get tested for health issues when they should, it is because sometimes making a trip to the hospital can be scary, or maybe inconvenient, or maybe even expensive if you’re not covered by a good health plan. However thanks to technology, that has changed a bit.

In fact it seems that in the future, you could very well test yourself for glaucoma from the comfort of your own home, and using your own smartphone too. This is thanks to Cambridge Consultants’ Viewi headset which as you can see in the image above, is a Gear VR-like device in which you can slot your smartphone into.

All users have to do is following the instructions and use a Bluetooth remote to press the button whenever a flashing light is shown on your phone’s display. The entire test is said to take about 5 minutes per eye, and patients can even share the information from the test with their doctor, meaning that your doctor could provide you feedback remotely if it isn’t serious enough for you to warrant a trip to the clinic.

The Viewi is also pretty affordable at around $26.53, making this accessible to pretty much everyone, or it could even be used in developing countries where it hospitals might not be as well-equipped.
