shazam-update

You normally wouldn’t associate Shazam with video because most people know it has a service that you use when you want to identify a song that’s playing in the background. Shazam is still one of the best services for that, but it has evolved into so much more. Shazam today announced a partnership with music video platform Vadio to bring in-app music video channels to its users.

Once Shazam identifies a song for the user it will also bring up a curated music video channel which can be played inside the app itself. There’s no clarity over whether the music video will be relevant to the one that was meant to be identified or just a completely random music video, Shazam is yet to provide the specifics on this.

“We want to give fans a great reason to spend more time with Shazam by giving them access to a rich and immersive music video experience. In turn, this creates new revenue opportunities for artists and, moreover, powerful ways of gaining exposure for brands,” said Fabio Santini, the chief product officer at Shazam.

Shazam has said that this new feature is going to be live in all markets where the app is available. The company recently launched a watered-down version of its app as well, it enables users in select markets to access Shazam’s core functionality without needing too much data or space on their smartphones.
