xbox one sRegardless of how fast your internet connection is, game files these days are huge which means that you’ll still have to spend a few minutes downloading a file that is several gigabytes large. This is why preloading is an important feature as it allows gamers to just jump right into the game on launch day, instead of sitting around waiting for it to download.

The good news for Xbox One gamers is that Microsoft has issued a system update for the console that apparently will boost your download speeds by as much as 80% on a 100 Mbps connection. For those who are connected below that speed, not to worry as you’ll still see a boost, albeit a slightly smaller one at 40% faster than before.

However as Microsoft notes, ultimately your download speeds will still be largely influenced by your ISP as well as other factors. For example if everyone in your home is using the net at the same time, don’t expect particularly high speeds. Or if your ISP is having connectivity issues, you will most definitely feel it as well.

In any case we guess the boost in speed is still a welcome update all the same, even if you don’t necessarily hit the full speed, having a little won’t hurt if it can cut down the time you spend waiting for downloads, right?
