Roku today launched version 4.0 of its Roku mobile app for iOS and Android. The new app comes with a fresh look and a new feature that focuses on enabling users to get to the content they want even faster. Navigation to popular mobile features like remote control and search is now simpler and faster than ever before. The new “What’s On” tab lets users quickly browse a selection of movies and TV shows that are available to stream.

The Roku mobile app is the perfect companion to the company’s streaming media players. It can double as a remote control and can even route the audio through the handset so users can simply plug in their headphones for private listening. The app also offers voice search for movies, TV shows, and more. It allows users to share their own content to the TV as well.

The app has a new navigation bar at the bottom which makes the most popular features more accessible. Only one tap is required to view and launch installed streaming channels, browse What’s On, use the remote or share photos and videos to the TV.

When the app is launched it displays a scrollable view of all streaming channels and requires only one tap to open a particular channel. Once a streaming channel is launched the remote control will appear automatically. The app’s remote control matches buttons more closely with the buttons on a Roku device’s remote now so that it feels more familiar.

The new Roku app is now available from the App Store and the Google Play Store.
