samsung logoSamsung is expected to debut a new AI with the upcoming Galaxy S8 in the form of Bixby, which according to the rumors is the result of Samsung’s acquisition of Viv Labs. However despite Samsung planning on debuting their own AI, they want to work with Google on developing the technology further.

Speaking at a recent conference, Samsung mobile division’s Lee Kyeong-tae was quoted as saying, “Samsung and Google will have to continue to maintain their strategic partnership to nurture the AI and the market for the emerging technology.” This is an interesting stance considering that Bixby would be kind of a competition to Google Assistant.

Samsung isn’t the only one who plans on using their own technology, or at least technology that isn’t Google’s. Recently Huawei confirmed that the Huawei Mate 9 will be launching with Amazon’s Alexa, something that Google apparently wasn’t too happy about which was one of the reasons why Google is apparently planning to bring Android One handsets into the US.

In any case it does make sense that if there could be some kind of standard, or at least if companies pooled their knowledge, AI could no doubt advance much further, but then again it does give them the competitive edge so what exactly will be the result of this partnership remains to be seen.
