whatsapp-androidIf in the past day or so you’ve noticed that your friends are sharing an article in which it says that WhatsApp will soon start to notify users when you’ve taken a screenshot of their conversations, you can rest assured knowing that it is not true and it is in fact a hoax that if anything is a good example of the kind of news Facebook wants to cut down on.

The original report claims that on the 5th of February, this new feature is expected to enter into effect. The report also quotes WhatsApp’s CEO Jan Koum as confirming the feature. However there are a couple of telltale signs to indicate that this is not real. For starters none of the major tech publications are running this story, which would have been an interesting piece to cover had it been real.

Second if you were to search for the alleged quote made by Kuom, you won’t find any other websites quoting it. Last but not least the site that originally published it is called “8SHIT” and its “About” section says that they are a satire and humor website, so that alone pretty much gives it away. So if you’re someone who does take a lot of screenshots of conversations, you can rest easy knowing that the other person will not know of your deeds.
