At the rate that handset OEMs have been upgrading their phones, it didn’t really come as a surprise when OnePlus decided to equip the OnePlus 3 back in 2016 with 6GB of RAM. In fact we’re slowly starting to see more OEMs do the same, but it looks like in 2017 OnePlus could be taking things to the next level.

In a report from PcPop (via The Android Soul) out of China, they are claiming that with this year’s OnePlus handset, the company could be including 8GB of RAM in the handset. At the moment the handset is being referred to as the OnePlus 5 simply because in Chinese culture, the number 4 is usually seen as a bad sign due to it being pronounced similarly as “death”.

That being said, the rumors are claiming that the phone will come with a whopping 8GB of RAM which is a lot, if not excessive. However at the same time it does make for great marketing so we guess there’s that. The rumors are also suggesting that OnePlus could upgrade the display to a QHD resolution which would be nice.

Other rumored specs include the use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chipset which we guess is pretty standard for flagships these days. It is also said to pack a 3,000mAh battery and should be priced under $500. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have something more official to share soon.
