While Apple has mostly focused on its flagship iPhones, the company has in the past tried to launch “cheaper” versions of the iPhone in an attempt to widen its appeal, such as the iPhone 5c and the iPhone SE, although admittedly neither of them have had the same amount of success as Apple’s main iPhone lineup.

This is why it did not come as a surprise to learn that Apple might not be refreshing the iPhone SE this year, but apparently that might not be the case. According to a report from French blog iGeneration (via MacRumors), it seems that Apple could actually introduce a new iPhone SE later this year, possibly alongside the new iPhones in late August which is when the rumored event is said to take place.

The article’s author Mickaël Bazoge told MacRumors that the information was received from a new source with an unproven track record, but he still felt that the source seemed “reliable” anyway. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but this is the first time we’re hearing that Apple could have a new iPhone SE.

Last year famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the company would not be refreshing the iPhone SE in the first half of 2017, which proved to be true, but there was no mention as to whether or not this was applicable to the second half. We suppose it remains to be seen, but we’ll definitely keep our eyes and ears peeled for more information.
