For the most part, Apple’s iPads have largely kept the same form factor for several generations now, save for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro which was launched earlier this year with slight design changes where its bezels were slightly thinner, but otherwise it still looks and feels very much like an iPad.

Now we have heard the rumors that next year’s iPads could feature a new design and also the introduction of Face ID, and now more details about next year’s iPad might have been potentially revealed, thanks to a post by Chinese website MyDrivers (via 9to5Mac). According to the report, it claims that Apple will be introducing an upgraded A11 Bionic chipset that will see the bump from a hexa-core setup to an octa-core one.

Given Apple’s history with their iPads, it is safe to assume that next year’s iPads will use an upgraded version of the A11, and presumably it will be known as the A11X. However whether or not it will be bumped from hexa-core to octa-core remains to be seen. The report goes on to claim that the A11X will be manufactured using the 7nm process by TSMC (the A11 uses a 10nm process), and that the tablet will be launched in Q2 2018.

Given that the iPad Pros were last refreshed at WWDC 2017 earlier this year in June, we suppose a Q2 2018 launch doesn’t seem quite out of the question, but since nothing is official yet it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now.
