Samsung’s mobile virtual reality headset is called Gear VR. The company launched it several years ago and has updated the headset almost every year. Users can slot in a compatible handset from Samsung and access a variety of virtual reality apps and games. It seems that the company now wants to bring its headset under the “Galaxy” umbrella with a new report claiming that Samsung is going to rebrand the Gear VR to Galaxy VR.

This may not be the online device that Samsung brings under the Galaxy umbrella. Recent reports have also suggested that the company may be thinking of taking a similar step for its Gear smartwatches as well. A trademark application also revealed the possibility of a new device called the Galaxy Fit.

What’s unclear at this point in time is when Samsung is planning to go through with this change. Samsung hasn’t said anything about launching a new Gear VR headset at this point in time. If history is any indication, Samsung may not launch a new headset before its next Galaxy S flagship, which isn’t due to be launched until early 2019.

While it’s possible that a new headset may be launched alongside the Galaxy Note 9 this year, that would mean that customers who buy the new flagship would have to get a new headset as well even though one may not be needed because Samsung isn’t expected to launch its higher-resolution display before the Galaxy S10 next year.
