When the concept of a smartphone with a foldable display is brought up, chances are Samsung probably comes to mind. However it seems that in the past few years, Apple is a name that is slowly starting to be associated with foldable phones as some analysts believe that the company could be working on such a device.

However if you were hoping to see this phone anytime soon, you might be in for a wait as a report from The Korea Times quotes an unnamed industry source that such a device could be years away from being made a reality. The source was quoted as saying, “Apple is attempting to release new iPhones with enhanced features next year and it is eyeing developing foldable iPhones, which will come several years later.”

We have heard rumors that the device could be launched in 2020, but this new report seems to hint that it could be later than that. Interestingly enough the rumors are saying that a foldable iPhone could be the result of Apple’s partnership with LG instead of Samsung. Both LG and Samsung are said to be developing such displays, and earlier this year LG actually showed off a prototype of a rollable OLED display.

In any case it’s probably best to take these reports with a grain of salt for now because even if they were true, like the report claims, we could still be several years away from seeing it.
