Much has changed in Windows over the years but the company hasn’t really made any changes to its Windows Notepad app. Users have been asking for improvements and Microsoft has finally listened to their feedback. It has made changes to the Windows Notepad app for the first time in many years.

The Windows Notepad app will now enable users to do wrap around find and replace. It will also allow them to zoom into the text by holding down the ctrl key and using the mouse wheel for zooming in and out.

Extended line ending support has been added as well so that Unix/Linux and Macintosh line endings are supported in the app. Moreover, when users have text selected and open the find dialog, it will automatically populate the search field with the selected text.

Microsoft also adds that it has improved the performance when opening large files in Notepad and that it now supports ctrl + backspace to delete the previous word. The arrow keys now correctly unselect text first and then move the cursor and when saving a file in Notepad, the line and column number no longer reset to 1.

These Notepad app improvements are part and parcel of Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17713. They will be released to the public in the next major Windows 10 update codenamed Redstone 5 which is due later this year.
