With the smartphone industry having firmly adopted the bezel-less and notched display trends, it appears that the foldable form factor is the next in line. We have long heard rumors that Samsung has a foldable smartphone in the pipeline. The company is expected to release it next year and recent reports suggest that Huawei wants to beat Samsung to market with a foldable smartphone. It may not be the only Chinese smartphone manufacturer working on this form factor.

According to a new report, popular Chinese smartphone manufacturers Xiaomi and Oppo are working on foldable smartphones as well. Both companies are said to be working with suppliers to source the parts that will be required to develop such a device.

Samsung will source the foldable displays that it needs for the handset from its own display subsidiary. Huawei will reportedly get them from Chinese display manufacturers and Xiaomi and Oppo might follow it down the same road as well.

Samsung and Huawei have reportedly opted for a fold-in design for their device while Xiaomi is said to go with a fold-out design. It’s unclear at this point in time what design Oppo is working on.

It will be interesting to see in what range all of these manufacturers price their foldable smartphones. Samsung’s handset is likely going to be a flagship device with a price tag to match. Xiaomi is best known for its feature-packed affordable devices and its fans would certainly want the company to apply this strategy to its foldable smartphone as well.
