USB Hedgehog Hand Warmer
Posted on November 23, 2009 5:28 AM

We’ve always thought that the most noticeable thing about hedgehogs would be the protruding spines, but obviously the designer thought that a USB hand warmer and massager wouldn’t need it. What we have here is, as mentioned, a USB hand warmer that doubles as a massager, in the shape of a hedgehog. Whether it looks like a hedgehog or not is probably subjective, but the pastel colors of this USB device is certainly appealing.
Grenade USB Flash Drive
Posted on November 23, 2009 5:16 AM

What would be the coolest way to pass your flash drive to your classmate at the other end of the class? Well, if you’re lucky enough to own this USB flash drive shaped like a hand grenade, you’ll know the best way is to lob it over to him. At $39.99 for an 8GB drive, it’s probably a tad pricey, but think of all the fun you could have with it! Just make sure you don’t try and bring this pass airport security, or you’ll probably miss your flight.
Bubble Yum USB Drive
Posted on November 23, 2009 4:23 AM

If you only take a quick glance at it, you’ll probably think that it’s just your normal stick of Bubble Yum gum, but it’s really the 2GB Yum Drive, which is also available in a Twizzler design. Too bad we won’t be able to store any real gum inside this flash drive though. You’ll have to use $24.99 of your chewing gum money to pick up this thumb drive.
USB Big Panda Speakers
Posted on November 22, 2009 9:29 AM

Upon hearing someone mention the USB Big Panda Speaker, you’re already fairly sure what the item does and roughly what it looks like, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Said speaker does look rather cute, and the fact that speakers are in the Panda’s huge eyes makes it seem even cuter. You’ll have to shell out $27 if you want this USB-powered speaker though.
USB Heating Kneepads
Posted on November 20, 2009 7:05 AM

No, the USB Heating Kneepads are not the bees knees. Keeping your hands and feet warm we can understand, but knees? Just wear a really long and thick pair of pants if you're so averse to winter temperatures, or at least have a set of long johns to keep you warm and toasty inside instead of wasting $28 on the USB Heating Kneepads. Apparently, this device comes with an external battery that can be juiced up when plugged to a USB port, it also can be charged via a wall outlet.
Pogoplug 2 announced, looks great
Posted on November 20, 2009 6:00 AM

Cloud Engine has shown us the next-generation Pogoplug. The multimedia sharing device uses a new beautiful industrial design that allows it to expand significantly from the first model: it is now possible to connect four USB hard drives to increase the storage capacity to several Terabytes. This great for edgy consumers, but also for independent professionals and small businesses.
The software has also been improved too: Pogoplug can now automatically synchronize files from connected computers. Organizing photos and videos has been simplified as well, and the demo that we've seen was very convincing. Video support has not been forgotten, and Pogoplug 2 is smart enough to convert most video formats (except AVCHD for now) into mp4 for streaming and sharing. The front-end web interface is nice and clean. If you really want to go overboard, it is possible to install several Pogoplugs and create your own cloud.
We know that the devices are on their way right now by plane and boat, so Pogoplugs are scheduled to ship in December. The price? $129
Imation Pro WX Wireless USB Hard Drive
Posted on November 19, 2009 10:04 AM

Imation has officially started shipping what it dubs as “the world’s first Wireless USB external hard drive”, which is the Imation Pro WX Wireless USB Hard Drive. It’s basically a 1.5TB hard drive, which will connect to your computer via a special wireless USB connector. At $450, it’s certainly pricey, and the fact that you’ll need a special USB connector on your laptop somehow makes it seem less cool. That being said, you can’t fault Imation for trying to innovate. In case you were wondering, data transfer rate peaks at 15MB/s and the wireless range is up to 30 feet. Read the full press release here.

It will keep your favorite hot beverage warm at around 40 degrees Celsius, retailing for $37 a pop.
Optical Mouse Detects Fake Euro Coins
Posted on November 17, 2009 7:49 AM

Do you think your mouse lacks features and can’t do anything more than jiggle your cursor? Well, if that’s the case, you could always team up with some of the Spanish engineers from the University of Lleida, who have modified an optical mouse to detect counterfeit 2 Euro coins. By placing the coin into a position device and rotated, the sensor will then capture the image and process it using a complex algorithm and you’ll get your answer fairly quick. Of course, the system can accept a webcam, but an optical mouse sensor is cheaper and smaller.

As if the myriad of USB-powered warmers from Thanko aren't enough to keep you warm during the chilly winter months in front of the computer, here's yet another product to make sure your body temperature remains regulated - the Thanko USB Blanket. It is easily transportable by rolling it up, and when connected to a powered USB port, it will warm up nicely, making it the ideal bed for your pets as well (of course, hopefully they won't pee all over your notebook which it is connected to). Warm, fuzzy feelings for this holiday season, eh?

Posted on November 9, 2009 7:04 AM

Nothing groundbreaking here, although they do come with a really furry design on the finger ends. Powered by USB, your hands will remain warm and toasty as long as it is plugged in, with removable hoods for your fingers making their presence felt whenever you need to access a touchscreen device.
GH-UH204SB USB Hub
Posted on November 9, 2009 2:51 AM

The GH-UH204SB might look like your average USB hub at a glance, but it actually has a rather unique feature, which allows users to switch each USB port on or off. Granted, it’s certainly not an earth-shattering feature, but it’s one of those things that you sometimes wish you had, right? At ¥ 2,980 ($33), it’s certainly a little pricey.
