Sounds confusing? Actually not – Scott Lin, chairman of Taiwan-based lens kit maker for Largan Precision, has ushered in a new age where mainstream resolution level for phone cameras are concerned – 3 megapixels will be the new norm, displacing the 2 megapixel figure that has reigned for quite some time already. After all, Largan’s compact camera module lens kit shipments in the fourth quarter of 2008 comprised of 30% 3-megapixel models, and that figure could touch 50% sometime in this quarter. When do you think 5 or even 8 megapixels will become the mainstream resolution?
