Buffalo Introduces New Extenal Hard Drives
Buffalo has unveiled some upcoming DriveStation external hard drives in the form of the DriveStation Duo, DriveStation Quad and also a new Axis series of single-drive storage devices. The DriveStation Duo supports two hard drives and sports USB 2.0 and eSATA 3.0 interfaces for data transfers. The drives contained within are quick-swappable and can be setup in either a RAID 0 or 1 setup, depending on your whim.
The DriveStation Quad suports up to four drives and offers RAID 0, 5, 10 and normal modes, but is preconfigured with RAID 5. Connectivity options include a eSATA 3.0 interface and also the more traditional USB 2.0 interface. The cooling system has been upgraded, and a snap-off front plate makes it easy for tool-free drive swapping.
Finally, the single-drive DriveStation Axis is pretty straightforward and offers a USB connection and ships with the Buffalo Backup Utility that supports Windows. The DriveStation Duo will be shipping in September, and you can expect to pay $275 and $455 for the 2TB and 4TB model respectively. The DriveStation Quad will be available in late August at $625 and $1,135 for the 4TB and 8TB versions respectively. Finally, the DriveStation Axis will be arriving in September and will be priced around $105, $145, and $170 for the 1TB, 1.5TB, and 4TB models.
