Well, Novint has been in the gaming peripheral market for quite some time already, what with their Falcon controller, but this time around they intend to up the ante with the Novint Xio force-feedback immersive exoskeletal gaming arm.
This self-contained prototype exoskeletal arm will function as a game controller, where you will need to strap it on and wave your hand around to keep it going. The Xio is smart enough to track your movements while translating them into in-game motions, not to mention a force-feedback component that raises the immersion level. We do wonder whether it will be a painful experience for those who are more sensitive than others, but perhaps one can turn down the vibration a notch if the action gets too thick for your liking?
The Xio isn’t ready for a commercial release just yet, and we do wonder just which platform will it play nice with when that happens.
