Outlook.com Now Has 20 Million Active Users, Outlook For Android Launched

Following the official launch of Outlook.com in July this year, Microsoft is announcing that the app now has over 25 million users. Microsoft says that nearly a third of its Outlook.com users are active Gmail users as well. To improve the app, Microsoft hired a research firm to recruit hundreds of Gmail users to test Outlook.com. The feedback, according to Microsoft, has been positive. Some Gmail users are saying that they preferred Outlook’s clean user interface while others say that the app does a better job of blocking spam.

Microsoft also touts keyboard shortcuts, conversation threading, and instant access to search operators as the key advantages of Outlook.com. Additionally, Microsoft is announcing the Outlook app for Android. This is good news considering that Android devices aren’t “consistent in their native support for Exchange ActiveSync.” On the other hand, Windows Phone 8 devices and iOS devices that support Exchange ActiveSync have built-in support for Outlook.com, so there’s no need for a mobile app. The app is now available for free on Google Play, although it’s clearly obvious that Google has to improve the UI a bit. Although Outlook.com isn’t really new, the news today will definitely bring in more Outlook.com users.
