Android 4.4 KitKat Rolling Out To Xperia Z Ultra Owners

xperiazultra-caseA couple of weeks ago, we reported that the Android 4.4 KitKat update would soon be making its way onto devices like the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, and sure enough it has. According to a report from the XDA Developers forum, it seems that the update has begun to make its way to users in Hong Kong (model number C6833), meaning that we expect it might take a while before it reaches other parts of the world.

As it stands the update is only available OTA, meaning that users will not be able to flash the update to their phones manually since we have not seen or heard about any leaked files to date. However if users really want to try and see if there is an update available for them, they can hit up their phone’s settings to try and pull it manually.

The update appears to be a phased rollout, as is the case with most Android updates, meaning that it might take a while for the update to arrive on your phone, even if it has arrived on your friend’s phone already, but it will get there in good time.

There’s no telling when the update will make its way stateside, but given that updates in the US are usually passed through carriers first and requires their approval, it might be a while before we see it. Either way we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more information, but has any Xperia Z Ultra owners not from Hong Kong receive the update yet?
