That being said, the Wave 2 technology found in the RT-AC87 router will allow for better reliability and speed boosts, along with overall performance improvements. It will also be ideal for homes or places where more than one device needs to connect to the router and where they don’t want speeds to be too impacted, although this will largely depend on your internet connection too, of course.
According to Margaret Chen, President of Open Platform Business (OPBG) Group for ASUS Computer International, “As the number of wireless devices in the home increases, so does the importance of Wi-Fi quality. Our customers value high-performance Wi-Fi and know the importance of a reliable and fast wireless connection in order to stream bandwidth-intensive data. The RT-AC87 provides them with class leading performance, as well as incredible range and reliability.”
As for pricing and availability, ASUS expects the RT-AC87 to be made available in North America “shortly” where it will be priced at $269.99. It is admittedly pretty expensive, especially if you’re planning to use it as a home router, but if you have devices that support 802.11ac and you think that it would help, then why not?
