Canon EOS M3 Mirrorless Camera Announced, Might Not See Release Stateside

EOS M3 EF-M18-55STM FSLA report from a few days ago revealed that Canon could be working on a new mirrorless camera in the form of the Canon EOS M3, the successor to the EOS M2. For those who are hoping that Canon will come back with an even more improved mirrorless camera, you will be pleased to learn that is the case as the Canon EOS M3 is official.

Unfortunately it looks like the camera will not be making its way stateside, at least as far as the near future is concerned. Instead it is expected to be released in April 2015 in Europe where it will be priced at £599.99 / €769.99, although we don’t see why photographers can’t get it imported, although it could end up costing them more.

That being said what can we expect from Canon’s latest mirrorless efforts? For starters the camera will come with a 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 6 processor, Canon’s latest image processor. It will feature a Hybrid CMOS AF III and 49-point AF system which according to Canon, will focus up to 6.1x faster than the original Canon EOS M which is admittedly slow camera to begin with.

The EOS M3 will have an ISO range of 100-12,800, a 3-inch LCD touchscreen display that tilts, Full HD video recording, although this caps out at 30fps, along with WiFi and NFC connectivity. We’ve definitely seen a lot better from the competition at the same price, but if you have a collection of EF-M lenses from before, we guess the EOS M3 could be worth the upgrade.
