Android 5.1 Factory Images For Nexus Devices Released

android 51According to a report from last week, it was suggested that Android 5.1 Lollipop would be released last week but safe to say that did not happen, however the rumor was pretty close as Google has recently announced that they have released the factory images for Android 5.1 for the Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and the Nexus 10.

What this means is that if you wanted to get your hands on the update before it is actually pushed out by Google or the carrier you’re on, you can go ahead and download the files yourself manually and flash it, but if you’re unfamiliar with flashing then perhaps you’re better off waiting for it to be rolled out, which we can imagine won’t be too long.

So what’s in the Android 5.1 update? According to Google, the update will introduce support for multiple SIM cards. It will also introduce a new feature called Device Protection and HD voice support on compatible devices. Google has defined Device Protection as, “With Device Protection, your lost or stolen device will remain locked until you sign in with your Google account – even if someone resets your device to factory settings.”

We expect that the update would have also fixed some bugs and will have various tweaks under the hood. No specific date on its release but we will be keeping our eyes peeled for more info.
