World Of Warcraft Subscribers Drop To 5.5 Million

wow flyingBlizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft is an old game. It is a little more than a decade old which is why it is not surprising to learn that according to Activision Blizzard’s latest numbers, World of Warcraft subscribers have declined. According to the latest numbers, the number of active subscribers is sitting at 5.5 million.

Prior to this, World of Warcraft had 5.6 million subscribers back in August, but prior to that in 2014, the game hit a new high after so long when it crossed the 10 million mark, largely thanks to the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Like we said given that the game is so old, it is not surprising to see it lose players as it ages.

That being said, Blizzard does have a new expansion coming up in the form of Legion which at this point in time, is anyone’s guess as to when it will be released. However recent speculation has suggested that maybe we could learn more during BlizzCon 2015 which will be taking place towards the end of the week.

We’re not sure if Legion will be able to rake in the same numbers that Warlords of Draenor did, but the new playable Demon Hunter class will no doubt see a lot of players coming back to check it out. Whether or not they will stay is an entirely different story, but who knows, with the Warcraft movie launching 2016, perhaps we could see some new fans enter the world.
