Canon EOS 1D X Mark II Officially Announced

After being treated to leaked images and rumored specs for a while now, photographers looking for a new professional-grade camera will be pleased to learn that Canon has officially announced their latest DSLR camera in the form of the Canon EOS 1D X Mark II, whose photos were leaked just several days ago.

According to Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., “The innovations within Canon’s new EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR camera clearly set a new standard for professional cameras. In developing the EOS-1D X Mark II camera, we looked to incorporate user-requested performance enhancements to bring professional photographers the ultimate EOS camera, a camera that has matured and been developed to meet their evolving needs.”

So what kind of specs does the EOS 1D X Mark II pack under the hood? For starters it seems like the rumors were right, but just in case you missed out on it, the camera will feature a newly developed 20.2MP 35mm full frame CMOS sensor. It is capable of shooting up to 14fps, and will be powered by dual DIGIC 6+ image processors.

The camera also seems to be aimed at videographers, thanks to its ability to capture 4K video at a buttery-smooth 60fps, an achievement that not many camera makers can boast about. It will also sport a 61-point AF system with improved AI Servo III+ for better accuracy during autofocusing.

That being said, the camera does not come cheap. Canon has priced the EOS 1D X Mark II at $5,999 for the body-only. Canon is also offering a Premium Kit which costs $6,299. It will come with a 64GB CFast memory card and a card reader. The camera is also expected to begin shipping to dealers in the US this coming April.
