Canon’s Latest Macro Lens Comes With A Built-In Ring Light

canon macro 2Are you looking for a macro lens that won’t break the bank? If you are, you might be interested to learn that Canon has recently unveiled their latest macro lens in the form of the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM. This is a lens that is priced at $300 which is relatively affordable, but given some of its features we reckon it might even be a value for money purchase.

Now you might notice in the photo that there is a shiny portion that is part of the lens. Upon first glance you might be thinking that maybe this could be the connector ring to the camera, but in reality what it is is a built-in macro ring light. This means that if you do not have a ring light and don’t want to spend the money, this lens will come with it built-in, which we reckon is pretty convenient.

As far as specs are concerned, the lens will offer up a 1.2x magnification and a close focus point of 13mm. It also sports a seven bladed circular aperture of f/3.5 which will lend itself to a smooth background blur, and a 45mm focal length (35mm equivalent). There is also built-in image stabilization so you can go ahead and shoot handheld.

That being said, the lens is designed for Canon’s EOS-M series of mirrorless cameras, so if you were hoping that this could be used for a DSLR setup, that will not be possible. It is expected to be released in June so EOS-M owners who have a thing for macro photography might want to keep an eye out for it.
