World Of Warcraft Nostalrius Will Return On December 17

Last month the folks at Nostalrius announced that the vanilla World of Warcraft servers would be coming back online, and now it looks like we have a date and that is the 17th of December, 2016 as launched the folks at Elysium who will be more or less taking over the project from here on out.

They have been stress testing their servers over the weekend and found that they are capable of handling 10,000 concurrent players. Note that as it stands, it is not an official resurrection of the vanilla version of the game, which means that we wouldn’t be surprised if Elysium were to receive a cease and desist letter from Blizzard’s lawyers.

In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, earlier this year fan-run vanilla World of Warcraft servers Nostalrius was ordered to shut down by Blizzard. However the outcry from the community led to Nostalrius and Blizzard meeting to discuss the possibility of bringing back vanilla servers.

However it seems that Blizzard’s inaction following the talks led to the community getting frustrated, which in turn led Nostalrius to decide to give the server code to Elysium. Like we said it’s not official so we’re not sure how long it will last before Blizzard shuts it down, but until then we guess you could try your luck with it while it is still live.
