Samsung Galaxy Watch Said To Run Tizen OS

Several reports over the past few months have suggested that Samsung is developing a new smartwatch. The wearable devices are launched under the Gear brand but recent reports claimed that the company will launch it as the Galaxy Watch instead. The expected branding led many to believe that perhaps the smartwatch would be powered by Wear OS and there were some rumors about that as well. However, a new report claims that the Galaxy Watch will not stray away from Tizen OS.

Samsung uses its homegrown Tizen operating system for a wide variety of devices such as smartwatches, fitness trackers, IoT devices, and more. It’s going to stick with the OS for the Galaxy Watch as well despite the expected name change.

Samsung has launched its Tizen-powered smartwatches under the Gear brand since 2015. Despite the fact that the Galaxy branding is associated with Samsung’s Android-powered products, it doesn’t look like the name change will result in a change in the OS as well.

According to a new report today by SamMobile, the Galaxy Watch is going to be powered by Tizen 4.0, the latest version of Samsung’s operating system. Tizen 4.0 will be accompanied by Bixby onboard, Samsung’s virtual private assistant.

The company is now expected to launch the Galaxy Watch alongside the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9.
