Trust the Germans to come up with a really solid piece of engineering – we’re looking at an extremely strong hand which is capable of even withstanding hammer blows as in the video in the extended post. Of course, you can’t really expect them to use those rubber hammers that squeak upon impact, do you? This high tech robotic hand is the brainchild of the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics at The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V.), and unless you are super rich and need not work for a day for the rest of your life, the rest of us plebians will have to sigh wistfully at the purchase price of each hand – touted to be within the region of €70,000 to €100,000. Coming in a similar shape and size to that of a human hand, it also boasts five articulated fingers that is powered by a web of 38 tendons, with each of them connected to an individual motor on the forearm.
