Sometimes in life, there are more than meets the eye – never mind that I will be watching Transformers: Dark of the Moon in a few hours’ time, but for other times, what we see is not as high-tech as we originally thought. Case in point, this robot security kiosk that you see here. While it looks tall at nearly 2 meters atop its podium, it will rely on a head mounted camera as well as facial recognition software before letting you pass through, after you swipe your ID card, that is.

I suppose there is an extra element of security here when you need to have your face scanned and recognized before you can enter a particular area, but come on, swiping ID cards? Surely that ought to be relegated to the past when you’ve got something as cool as a robot guarding the doorway?

Imagine implementing this system at a company where there are thousands of employees, the facial recognition system had better work fast and efficiently, otherwise there would be a bottleneck of employees at the entrance all the way till lunch time.
