Skype has just released the iOS of their Skype WiFi, which was previously only available on the computer. For those unfamiliar with that feature of Skype, it basically allows you to hook onto third party WiFi connections that would normally require you to pay a fee in order to use it.

For example sometimes in airports or hotels, the WiFi they provide is not free and users would be required to purchase a time pass, which is sometimes just not worth it, especially if all you want to do is do a quick email check and perhaps reply some messages. Given the fact that there are just too many of these service providers in the world for Skype to keep track off, they have instead partnered up with international providers such as Boingo, FON, Tomizone and hotel specific providers such as Best Western and Comfort.

The Skype WiFi app on iOS requires iOS 4.1 or later and the cheapest access will cost you $0.06 per minute (depending on the provider), and the best thing is that it will make use of your Skype credit, meaning if you have a lot of Skype credit lying around unused, instead of having to shell out more money for a WiFi pass, you will be able to use your Skype credit instead.

If you need another reason to give the app a go, Skype is also giving a free hour pass starting August 20th until the end of the 21st of August, at 15 minutes at a time. No word if Skype plans to bring this app over to other platforms such as Android.
