Spotify for iOS upgraded to support Extreme quality streamingIf you want to use Spotify on your iPhone but the lack of 320kbps streaming has always put you off, it looks like you won’t have that reason anymore. Spotify has updated its iOS app with the inclusion of a new streaming quality: “Extreme”. Previously, Low Bandwidth meant streaming in 96kbps, while High Quality was 160kbps. Extreme now lets users stream music in 320kbps. While it’s not the same as listening to FLAC or music from a CD player, it’s definitely an improvement – something that will be noticed with good enough headphones.

However, with carriers clamping down on bandwidth and throttling connection speeds, it doesn’t look like a lot of people will be able to take advantage of this update – unless they primarily use Spotify to stream music to their devices at home over WiFi. But hey – it’s always better to have the option to as opposed to not having it at all. Grab the latest version of Spotify from the Apple App Store now. Expect it to arrive on Android and Windows Phone versions of the app in the near future.
