iOS is currently the only platform on which WhatsApp is being offered at $0.99 as a onetime payment upfront. WhatsApp for other platforms such as Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone can be downloaded for free, but users are expected to pay $0.99 after one year, which makes it interesting because it seems that WhatsApp for iOS has now gone free! Considering that the app relies on the purchase of it as a source of revenue, it is safe to say that this free offering will be for a limited time, and by offering itself up for free, we expect that it will encourage users to download and use its service instead of the competition, such as the recently revamped Facebook Messenger (which no longer requires a Facebook account to use), Viber, Kik, Line and etc. In any case if you don’t have WhatsApp or if you know people who don’t have it because they refuse to pay $0.99, you can now head on over to the iTunes App Store for the free download.
