device-activations-2014
If data from Flurry, a mobile analytics firm, is anything to go by then it appears that Apple had a very good Christmas as opposed to some of its biggest rivals. The data shows that Apple devices accounted for over half of all new mobile device activations over the holiday season, 51.3 percent to be precise, this figure includes all device activations across the world.

Flurry has reached this conclusion by studying data from over 600,000 tracked applications. It looked at the week leading up to Christmas, running from December 19-25, including the big day as well.

Second place, as one would expect, went to Samsung. The Korean juggernaut could only muster 18 percent of new worldwide device activations it seems. This comes amid Samsung’s struggles with declining smartphone sales which it hopes to counter with a renewed vision for the mobile business to make things better in 2015.

Nokia devices came in third place with 6 percent of activations followed by Sony and LG in fourth and fifth with 1.6 percent and 1.4 percent of activations respectively.

HTC, Huawei and Xiaomi came in at under one percent though one must not forget that these brands aggressively target Asian markets where the holiday season isn’t really lucrative in terms of gift giving.
