samsung logo 5We’re towards the end of January 2015 but it already looks like Apple has had a pretty good start to the year, having announced that they managed to sell a whopping 74.5 million iPhones in the previous quarter, breaking some records in the process. The Cupertino company has also managed to nab a 33% market share in South Korea and according to reports, is expected to gain on Samsung in terms of sales.

Despite all of that, an analyst from Jefferies & Co. still seems to believe that 2015 could be the year of Samsung. The analyst points at some of Samsung’s development such as flexible OLED displays and 14nm chipsets as some of the reasons as to why Samsung could be expected to have a good 2015.

The analyst argues that Samsung’s potential shift to metal casings for their high-end and mid-rangers will be what gives them the edge over the competition, especially from the likes of Xiaomi who has been nipping on their heels. He/she also claims that if Xiaomi were to follow suit, it would require retooling and economies of scale on a grand scope in which they might need a while before they achieve that.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S6 in the coming months where it is expected to feature a brand new design. Samsung is also said to be approaching the Galaxy S6 from a new direction that will hopefully see sales rejuvenated, but what do you guys think? Does Samsung have what it takes to make 2015 theirs?
