waze-policeIt looks as though Miami police have a bone to pick against Waze, and certain segments of the long arm of the law has entered false data on Waze as part of an apparent revenge plot against the crowd-sourced mapping app. Waze, which has been picked up by Google, saw the ire of Miami police being acted out in a rather juvenile fashion, where hundreds of them have installed Waze to send false data, so that regular users will be fooled into thinking that there is a cop somewhere around the corner – hidden or otherwise, and “behave” on the road.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel weighed in with his two cents, saying ,”If someone is suffering mental illness and they want to commit a heinous crime or hunt a deputy or a police officer, they don’t need Waze to do that.” Well said, Sheriff, it is not Waze that puts a police officer’s life in danger from a madman, which so happened to be one of the schools of thought that we reported about at the end of last month.

Waze did issue a statement, “Police partners support Waze and its features, including reports of police presence, because most users tend to drive more carefully when they believe law enforcement is nearby.”
