One of the problems that electric carmakers still need to overcome is to introduce more charging stations for its vehicles. This is because unlike gas stations which can be easily found, EV charging stations aren’t quite as ubiquitous. This means that EV owners will need to be more careful when planning their route to avoid getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.

However, the good news is that if you use Waze, you’ll soon be able to search and find EV charging stations on its maps. Prior to this, owners could already show gas stations on their Waze maps and routes, but now there will be an option to look for EV charging stations as well, which we imagine is a welcome update for EV owners.

According to Waze Head of Industry Jeffrey Kohl, “This is an incredibly exciting moment for Waze as Volkswagen brings electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to our map for the first time ahead of a very busy holiday travel period. Volkswagen is helping to shape what EV looks like on the Waze map and we’re looking forward to highlighting the breadth of EV stations available across the US, especially as more automotive brands move towards an electric future.”

That being said, Google Maps can already show EV charging locations, and given that Waze is owned by Google, it’s not surprising that this feature found its way into the app, although why it took this long is unclear.
