samsung logoCould self-driving cars be the way of the future? For one we can imagine that they would be a lot safer as it would mean less reckless drivers and quicker response times, not to mention it would allow drivers to be more productive on their way to work/school too. That being said could Samsung be interested in this particular field as well?

According to a report from the Korea Times, the answer is yes, along with other ventures. The report claims that Samsung has recently put together a product innovation team established by Samsung Electronics that will focus on hi-tech projects. These projects include 3D printing, drones, robots, robotic telepresence, virtual reality, and unmanned vehicles.

The team is said to be led by Shin Jong-kyun who is the head of Samsung Mobile at the moment. According to a Samsung official, “Given the significance of the team, members will have more authority and independence because the main purpose of the team isn’t to develop single devices for any imminent results, but to develop solutions to go with Samsung’s manufacturing capabilities.”

It might still be a bit too early to tell what kind of products we might be able to expect from Samsung’s new division, but considering that we’ve seen Google’s own Advanced Technologies and Projects come up with devices like Project Ara, Project Loon, and Project Tango (just to name a few), we certainly are excited to see what Samsung could bring to the table.
