samsung-smartwatch-market

Ever since the event yesterday Apple Watch has eclipsed all other news about wearable tech. The company is actually pretty late to the party as companies like Samsung, Motorola, LG and others have been selling smartwatches for quite some time now. Analysts expect Apple to move millions of units of the Apple Watch in the first year alone. Perhaps that might make the Cupertino company the world’s largest smartwatch vendor but for now a latest reports hands that crown to Samsung.

It merits mentioning here that during its event at MWC 2015 Samsung didn’t unveil a new smartwatch even though it was rumored to do so. Samsung is actually going wait a bit before it launches its next smartwatch, it is shooting for a more perfect product this time around.

Still, some of the models that Samsung has already released, have managed to place it on top of the pack. According to numbers collected by analyst firm Statista, Samsung is the world’s largest smartwatch vendor, selling more than 1.2 million smartwatches last year.

If this figure is correct then Samsung holds 17.65 percent of the entire wearable device market. It is followed by Pebble in second place with over 700,000 unit sales last year. Fitbit is placed in third with 600,000 unit sales.

Now that the Apple Watch is ready to hit the market next month many analysts expect that it would quickly become the most popular smartwatch out there. Starting at $349 it happens to be a bit expensive than other options available in the market, but then again, Apple’s devices are usually priced a notch higher than the competition and that doesn’t seem to hurt its sales much.
