It’s no secret that Twitter has ambitions to become a place where you spend you money to shop for things and it has taken a new step towards that goal with the launch of product and place pages, these pages will allow Twitter users to discover and buy items from within the microblogging service.

If a Twitter user visits a product page they’ll see tweets from other users about that production, prices and even a buy button in some cases. The company provided an example on its blog post of the book The Martian by Andy Weir, the product page for which can be accessed through publisher Penguin Random House’s profile page.

On the product page for the novel you can see tweets related to the book and a “Buy on Twitter” button to purchase it directly, it’s up to retailers if they sell directly on Twitter or link to an external page.

Twitter has also introduced Collections which basically puts curated products from partners in front of users. 41 partners have signed up for Collections which includes Nike, Demi Lovato and Reese Witherspoon. Collections can feature all sorts of items which users can browser and even purchase if they want to.

Twitter has started rolling out product pages and Collections to users in the United States on iOS, Android and the web. Twitter says that it’s going to expand its commerce related features in the near future.
